SUMMER IN BIG SKY

The snow that makes all the winter activities possible in Big Sky also creates great recreational fun in the summer. As the snow melts, it runs down the mountains and feeds the Gallatin River where you can enjoy an action packed day of whitewater rafting and kayaking. Take the kids and a camera for a tour through Yellowstone National Park, just 18 miles south of Big Sky, and view bison, elk and moose grazing in the green open meadows. You may even get a rare opportunity to see an elusive grizzly foraging for food. Another great way to enjoy Montana in the prime of summer is on one of the many mountain bike and horseback trails.

Embark on a day hike on one of the many trails and you’re sure to come across wildlife and beautiful mountain scenery. Some of the chairlifts in the ski resorts stay open through the summer to help you gain inspiring mountain vistas. Along with its mountain landscapes, Montana is also famous for its Blue Ribbon trout streams. Hook into a stout rainbow or brown trout on the Madison or Gallatin Rivers where there are a number of guided trips running daily. You may also choose from one of the many golf courses to spend a day on the links. The Reserve, a Jack Nicklaus Signature course, will be opening in 2007.

Take a trip to nearby Bozeman and after a day of shopping, enjoy lunch or dinner on the patio of one of the fine restaurants. You can also take the family on a short drive to Virginia City and catch a nightly show performed by the Virginia City Players. Visit Big Sky during the summer and you’ll find all of these great activities right outside your back door.
